چکیده

Abstract Maintaining minimum distance between repair and existing welds often becomes impractical due to the presence of compact layouts, original branches, nozzles, etc. on offshore structural elements, pipelines, piping. Although some international codes standards provide criteria for maintaining a proximity welds, most them lack technical justification in relation their effect integrity welded components. The development residual stresses has significant (i.e., negative tensile positive compressive stresses) fabricated at proximity. Hence, it is important investigate stress distribution proximity, especially away from weld toe. This study presents findings characterization by neutron diffraction region two girth welds. were using different welding procedure specifications three distances, steel pipe, grade S355. distances toes maintained 5, 10, 15 mm respectively. diffraction-based distributions investigated POLDI instrument Swiss spallation source SINQ Switzerland. axial, hoop, radial components experimentally revealed that axial 5-mm increased beyond yield strength steel, this enable practitioners take remedial actions minimize developed Also, us derive developing

Neutron Diffraction Evaluation of Near Surface Residual Stresses at Welds in 1300 MPa Yield Strength Steel

Evaluation of residual stress in the weld toe region is of critical importance. In this paper, the residual stress distribution both near the surface and in depth around the weld toe was investigated using neutron diffraction, complemented with X-ray diffraction. Measurements were done on a 1300 MPa yield strength steel welded using a Low Transformation Temperature (LTT) consumable. Near surfac...

Investigation on the Residual Stress State of Drawn Tubes by Numerical Simulation and Neutron Diffraction Analysis

Cold drawing is widely applied in the industrial production of seamless tubes, employed for various mechanical applications. During pre-processing, deviations in tools and their adjustment lead to inhomogeneities in the geometry of the tubes and cause a gradient in residuals. In this paper a three dimensional finite element (3D-FE)-model is presented which was developed to calculate the change ...

Investigation of Acrylic Acid at High Pressure Using Neutron Diffraction

This article shows that pressure can be a low-intensity route to the synthesis of polymethacrylic acid. The exploration of perdeuterated methacrylic acid at high pressure using neutron diffraction reveals that methacrylic acid exhibits two polymorphic phase transformations at relatively low pressures. The first is observed at 0.39 GPa, where both phases were observed simultaneously and confirm ...

Neutron diffraction analysis of residual stresses near unannealed welds in anhydrous ammonia nurse tanks.

Neutron diffraction analysis was employed to measure residual stresses near welds in used anhydrous ammonia nurse tanks. Tensile residual stresses contribute to stress corrosion cracking of nurse tanks, which can cause tanks to release toxic ammonia vapor. The analysis showed that tensile residual stresses were present in the tanks measured, and the magnitudes of these stresses approached the y...

Residual Stress Mapping in Welds using the Contour Method

The contour method, a newly-invented sectioning technique for residual stress measurement, has the potential to measure the cross-sectional residual stress profile of a weld in a simple and time-efficient manner. In this paper we demonstrate the capability of the contour method to measure cross-sectional residual stress profiles, which are compared with neutron diffraction measurements and show...
